Above the mean professor. Very flexible in marking and approachable.
Very nice person and cares for his students.
CPS125 was the hardest course I've taken at Ryerson. Glaucio was very helpful when I needed, tough he didn't answer exactly what I want to hear. Usually, his answer was another question until i saw my error. Exams were hard, but this is with the course coordinator. MC are boring and PQ are disproportionate to the labs.
He knows a great deal of the course material, and does a lot of examples during class, very helpful, but only if you go to him for help. However, the course material itself is what makes this course hard IF you don't take interest in it, or don't try, otherwise fairly straight forward.
If you ask him to explain some programming question then he will say you to explain to him instead, so beware. Honestly, i felt he forgot how to program. he was rumbling when i asked him to correct my programs. Anyway he is a friendly guy and doing his best to help his students.
Glaucio is a fantastic prof. Very approachable, friendly, an interested in your success. I went into his class with ZERO programming knowledge and passed with a C... not the best but I'll take it :)
Good examples were shown and if you asked for it to be explained again he would go over it again.
Programming is hard and demanded a lot from me. I had to work really hard to pass. In this process, Dr. Carvalho helped a lot. In addition to codifying a lot in class, he handed out many extra questions and encouraged students to share and debate their codes in class. I learned a lot from these moments. He also explained codes very well.
Programming is not easy, but as Dr. Carvalho says, you need to practice. Seems simple enough, but actually coding will certainly help you prepare for the midterm and final. Keep at it and don't give up!
If you have never done programming before you will need to practice. Midterm and final are hard, but show up for class and do the projects and you will be fine. Glaucio is friendly and approachable, and will offer extra suggestions and advice if you approach him.
