Some may not enjoy his lecture style. I love it! The bluntness of his lectures is so funny, he can be "anti-woke" but it is so fun to participate in lectures, he will "but why/prove it" you and THAT is the point of this class that many people miss. He's a talker but actively wants to be challenged, had great convo w him after lec, grow a spine!
i went to ryerson 2006-2013, best teacher i ever had in my life. i took as many classes as i could with him, funny, practical and learned a lot ! legend
I didn't do too well on the essay, so make sure to give yourself time to work on it, lol. The course is comprised of one essay and three quizzes, which were online in the Fall semester of 2024. The course was fairly easy, and the lectures were super informative. I attended every lecture because I felt like they were great life lessons too.
I learned a lot from this class and it was SO fun. I know that seems strange to say about a Uni course but it was totally true. I learned about things that I hadn't even thought about before. He's a funny guy and lectures feel like he's conversing with you. He makes it easy to understand and doesn't use complex language, making it very accessible.
I remember Sal from when I studied nursing from 2002-06. I took every class I could with him. He's great, direct, makes class fun & he is honest about the world. Im rating him years later because I was just telling someone to take his class-I say this to anyone I hear is at TMU. Just shows how long a positive impression can last.
gives 35 examples of a bad essay and 1 example of a good one. make it make sense. feedback is so mean, students names are also attached to the papers that exemplify bad work which feels invasive. says things like "buy an English book" to students instead of just providing feedback in a kind but critical way.
I wasn't interested in Sociology until I attended his lectures!
the worst professor I've ever had at Ryerson. So disrespectful and talked about himself for an hour out of the 2 hour lecture. It's like he learned about sociology in the 90's and hasn't updates his knowledge since, so outdated and offensive for no reason. If you can, avoid taking him and do yourself a favor.
He shouldn't be teaching this course. He is not very forgiving or kind to his students, I would even say that he's rude. Maybe there was some disconnect due to the online nature of the course, but I would really consider switching if you have him as a prof. You just won't do as well as you deserve to.
His lectures are actually the highlight of my week. I generally do not get good profs because i am in a harder program and his classes (my elective) really helped the week go by easier. You don't have to attend his lectures except for a few days where he takes attendance but you're going to want to anyways. Very straight up and easy going. EASY A.
