Dr. Carlaw is very kind but his expectations were unrealistic. Four "short answers", 2-3 double spaced pages, and one long answer, 5-6 double spaced pages, all handwritten. Had to cite specific points that authors from readings made. Felt like a masters course. Great content, but most of our learning came from us learning on our own. I'm sad.
wants you to share a google doc to see version history. i don't mind that but it's just tedious for those that do a lot of rough work in different docs before they make a final draft. has a very monotone voice. lecture slides are mostly photos, talks too much to follow along and take good notes. his assignment guidelines are so long and annoying.
the assignment sharing a doc is kinda wierd tbh
As an overall person, he is friendly and clearly passionate about the material he teaches. However, I honestly dreaded this class because it was so content-heavy. If you're someone who doesn't do readings, do not take him. I also recommend attending his classes because his slides alone do not provide enough material.
Overall nice prof and the course was up-to-date with current political events. However, I found his exam expectations were unrealistic (4 short answers 2 pages each and a 5-6 page essay at the end) and took a long time to grade. I would say weekly attendance and keeping on track on readings is mandatory to do well.
