A very understanding and encouraging prof. He knows how hard making a movie is and will give you essential feedback on how you can get better and evolve as a filmmaker. A great prof to start your first year film school journey with.
One of the best profs I've ever had. Truly cares about his students and what he teaches. Instead of demoralizing you for not being able to do something right, he will help you with workarounds and help you succeed. One of the best first-year instructors you can have in film school!
Super engaging lectures and class, participation matters and attendance is mandatory. Can sometimes be rough on feedbacks but you can tell that it's no hard feelings. Overall, he's genuinely passionate about what he teaches.
Overall he was very clear with how he graded our films and did so without his personal opinion's affecting anything, he also gave great feedback on how we can edit our films or working with what we have and overall was very encouraging towards every stage of presenting our films
Very easy marker. Film pretty much anything and JP will say "you've got a lot to work with" Doesn't give feedback harsh enough imo, but he holds a strong emphasis on "its your f'in film" and you having freedom to make what you want. As long as you stay in guidelines and submit on time, you will love this prof
I personally am a bit disappointed because I came here to learn the strict fundamentals of filmmaking but he was too lenient to students. I understand the consensus "there's no right answer in art," but I wanted some standardized guidance. However, other than that, I am mostly satisfied from this instructor [4/5].
he clearly genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed, grading is quite lenient but that's not to say he won't give you feedback, he just won't grade super harshly. as long as you're on top of deadlines you'll be fine
