Lectures are difficult to follow. Powerpoints are no help either so if you don't go to class you're basically screwed. He is a tough grader. Seems like a nice guy though.
To begin, Mr.Stagg rarely showed up on time to class. He is also the toughest grading teacher I've had. I've taken some HST courses previously and they are much better than his. He provides absolutely no feedback and does not really tell you what to expect from each test. Since each test/essay is weighted so highly this makes it very difficult.
Ronald Stagg is a very bad professor. He does not have any grading criteria, there are no rubrics included for any essays or anything. You won't receive any feedback on any exams or essays you do, just a number. His slides are awful and have very minimal information. He's an extremely difficult grader. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.
If the majority of students receive grades between the C-D range, who is actually performing poorly? Dr. Stagg does not make his expectations clear and punishes students accordingly. Lectures are dull, incoherent, and repeatedly interrupted by technical difficulties. The course is incredibly disorganized. Avoid at all costs.
Horrible Hard Marker Dont take this class
Very tough grader. His slides do not tell you anything, make sure you go to every single lecture. Most of the class failed the exams, and did poorly on the essays. Does not give clear instructions about what he wants. Boring. Do not take the class, he will make you hate what you're learning.
Dr. Stagg might be knowledgeable of his topic, however, he is incredibly unclear of what he wants in assignments and tests, as well as he grades toughly. For someone who doesn't teach very well and doesn't deliver at his very best, he has very high expectations and doesn't seem to know how to really grade. Save your money, don't take the class.
Lectures are extremely dull and he reads off the slides. He is an unpredictable marker and doesn't provide any feedback on assignments or exams. Would not recommend taking his courses.
He seems like a really good prof at first but that is prt of his trap, he is an insanely arbitrary grader and will not give you feedback if anything is submitted online, very boring and brutal person. This prof is 100% guaranteed to be awful! If you take this class... well you arnt getting that money back.
Nice guy, great content but clearly has taught the course dozens of times. I agree with other posters, harsh grader for sure because he is specific with what he wants, go to class because theres a lack of info on slides. Requires a solid amount of library/archive research for essay. Breakdown is readings/seminars, midterm, essay/plan, exam.
