I will See you all in fall 2026. To the incoming class, the final exam was on about 80% of things she didn't explicitly teach. I guess you were expected to just know or self study in the dark lol. Don't even bother studying mechanisms, even though 90% of the slides are on that. Brush up on your orgo. Failed the lecture component
Firstly, most people skip class - then complain. Even though she teaches mechanisms that are not tested, which ik feels like a waste, you retain things she emphasizes. Anne Johnson is actually nice, course is just so heavy. Study w friends who can quiz you. Don't fall behind, watch yt vids, read the TB to learn metabolism chapters. You got this.
Just no…. there's no justification for this course to be as difficult as it is.
cGPA doesn't mean anything, its about recognition of what she teaches and applying it. i have a cGPA 2.9 if that even matters, and i ended this course with a 95. why, because i studied the right stuff from her content, problems and lec. There's a code to be cracked with all courses, find it and you'll succeed even the deadliest classes. props
I really do think the mt and final were fair and the content wasn't overly difficult. The midterm and exam packages actually helped if you did all the questions and it's not a course that stipulates everything tested will only come from slides alone. Dr Johnson provided us with an overview and told us we're to focus,it was up to us to do so
Issues that arise are: the prof's unwillingness to improve, the lack of correlation between lec and final exam material, the slow pace of lecture including a lack of content actually taught (compared to what amount botelho teaches in his courses, this prof tests on a lot but only teaches 20% as much). This is not villainization, this is critique.
Let's be objective here, this prof has been given constructive criticism before by various student groups and others in how to improve the course. Ideas such as "improve teaching", "lessen the impact of the final", "make the final correlate better with lec material." Since 2008 this course has faced complaints, with the prof unreceptive to feedback
“I'm upset because I didn't do well in the course so let me villainize the professor” - as a student who had to repeat the course because I didn't put enough effort in the first time- the teacher is not to blame, was more then fair on assessments and a lot of students lack accountability.
I truly feel that the exam and midterm were made fair, I also felt like I actually learned how to research and expand on learning outside of class like you would in postgrad courses. I truly feel that Dr Johnson sets her students up for success, however, you need to be willing to be in the effort on your end as well.
Exams reflected NOTHING she acc taught in the course. In the lectures, she would write a few words on a word or circle something without explaining it. She loves to blame students for "not studying hard enough". Spend weeks teaching myself everything and maybe 5% of the midterm/exam was based off her slides. Good luck to those taking it next year.
