I don't know why Opal gets a lot of negative reviews. I had her this semester and she was great to learn from. She is very knowledgeable and provides info to students to learn, she always finds tasks in the hospital for students to do to learn. She could be a tough grader but she's clear on what she expects. She's open to questions and helping!
Had her last semester. Her approach style needs to change, I can't learn effectively like that. The clinical environment can felt isolating and feedback towards me felt bitter. Only certain students get away with being all chatty with her, which was unfair. She is very good at explaining patho when you don't understand.
She is a little more on the stricter side, but you will learn a lot and improve a lot critically and in your skills. She also never made our clinical group cry, lol. She does seem intimidating at first but is actually nice once you start taking to her.
Everyday I think my life is bad i just think about how I don't have opal anymore and life is worth living.
Difficult & unfair. Said for CJM we would go in order then decided to randomize the order & change her mind (you find out day of if you are going). She allowed earlier students to do their CJM on the computer, but later said no to other students on the day of. She says don't care what other groups do, this is hers. Never leave early & come early.
i mean she did her job as a CI and gave good feedback to help improve but yeah i agree with the other reviews about her approach and all
She is a tough grader, but the way she teaches we're very helpful and well-structured. The way she explained concepts made pathophysiology easier to understand, and I was able to apply what I learned in her class to my other nursing courses.
Nothing about this clinical course is hard except the mental load. She made many people cry, feel terrible for no reason. At times she can be hypocritical. She created a environment where it was hard to speak up. She has odd mannerisms where you feel like you are walking on thin ice for no reason. She gets better with time, nice towards the end.
Opal is very knowledgeable, you will learn a lot from her. She uses a probing technique, good for learning but might criticize you sometimes. She gets nicer with time and just hope her pillow is cold on both sides. 0/10 at beginning of year. The head-to-toe and the documentation- marked fairly. She wont fail you but you will feel like crying.
She is very intimidating and unfriendly to begin with. She does go tougher on some more than others at times. Don't let this bother you, as she is extremely knowledgeable, gives great feedback, and is very clear on her expectations. Come to clinicals prepared, ask questions, and make her notice your improvement. She gets way better with time.
