Gave good feedback. assignments were not difficult but be sure to do all readings because tested material wasn't always mentioned in lecture
One thing I liked about Dr. Lightman was how open she was to feedback and how she told you exactly what she expects of you for in class writing assignments. Her lectures were, however, incredibly boring -- almost painful to sit through. She has a tendency to elaborate on things that don't need elaborating.
Naomi Lightman has been one of my favourite professors I've had in my four years of Sociology. The lectures sometimes have challenging concepts to grasp due to the math-heavy nature of the course, but Professor Lightman takes the time to thoroughly explain each concept, sometimes in a variety of different ways, until it clicks. Very professional.
Prof lightman is pretty decent. The course content isn't difficult at all and neither are the in class assignments imo. I heard that the avg was pretty low on the first one but I didn't prep and just read the instructions and I did fine. She's pretty nice tho and encourages group and class discussion. I would take again.
SOC411 was challenging as it was my first time taking stats. I dont see point of taking stats as Sociology student, but anyways. A different prof to teach this course would have been better. Prof Naomi seemed nice at first, by the end of the term, she became passive-aggressive towards students. She does not care and gets rude and harsh in exams!
….. honestly the class itself isn't that hard as long as you learn the basic of coding but she make it so difficult because the content is very heavy and she reads off from the slides (so i learned this course by teaching myself) TA and her are so inaccessible outside of the course, very passive aggressive & roll her eyes to students
Class readings are pretty consistently long, however all the exams are online. There are 3 in-class writing assignments which are practically in-class timed essays. Prof. Lightman seems like a kind person and she's clearly passionate about sociology, however the in-class assignments were marked pretty hard even when I studied a ton for them.
Overall, she is a good prof. lectures and slides are clear and easy to follow. she expects class participation! however, sometimes it feels like she is annoyed that she has to teach and seems like she has a short fuse.
Prof Lightman is a solid professor. Clear lectures, albeit long-winded at times, and clear grading criteria. Having us perform a qualitative study in this class was incredibly informative and I learned a lot. As well, she's great with providing recorded lectures when you miss class. I recommend.
This professor is great at explaining concepts. She explains concepts in multiple ways in case one method is unclear, complex, etc. She covers the textbook chapters very well too. Overall, a great prof!
