Content is definitely important for the planning profession and he has valuable knowledge, but I wouldn't call him a good prof. He simply doesn't understand what is realistic for students and makes it everybody's problem. Super condescending. His lectures changed my view on planning for the better but he needs to get off his high horse.
He was good at first, very passionate and lectures were interesting, downside is he lacks professionalism and would spend class scolding and asking personal questions about himself as a prof and insults students as well, unfortunately my impression of him deteriorated after he talked behind students back in front of other students and insulted them
Personally love Dr.Lewis. He's a wonderful professor and really wants to challenge his students. I'm a better writer because of him, and his feedback. He's a passionate professor (as he should be) about the topics he teaches. People keep saying he makes it too “racial” but I think it's because they're uncomfortable with the truth of his lectures.
Despite being part of a high-quality program, this instructor lacks the academic rigor expected at this level. He repeats the same underdeveloped thesis across all his courses, regardless of the subject. This repetitive approach and the disconnect between his rhetoric and personal branding detract from the program's professional reputation.
Has really engaging lectures and the material he teaches is very important. There are only 2-3 readings a week and they are very doable. The grading expectations for exams were unclear, hard to meet and inconsistent. Wish we had the option to pass/fail courses as I would take another of his classes in a heartbeat if it didn't tank my GPA so much
I will be honest most of the class going into this semester had low reviews, however i decided to give him the benefit. This was a mistake he makes planning so radicalized and racial to the point where other marginalized groups received little to no attentions. overall was unreachable, overall would never take him again horrible experience.
Unclear grading criteria and tough marking make it difficult to receive a decent mark in this class. Instead of using multiple choice, he'll test your memorization of the material using written-answer exams, which makes it hard to get anything over a 70%. In previous years, attendance and reviewing the readings was enough to get you a good grade.
There is a common consensus that he has a specific opinion. He tells you that you have to come to class and do the readings, yet he grades the exams based on an answer key, which further verifies that consensus. It seems to be that if you don't emulate his opinions to a tee, you won't do well.
- It's a reading-heavy class with written exams, which is fine in itself. However, - Around 1/3 of class time was wasted on being scolded for students not coming to class, yet you're sitting right there. - Overcrowded slides with overwhelming text that somehow still don't explain much information. - Grading is incredibly disappointing.
