I truly don't understand the rating she received. She actually tried to be helpful by giving students the chance to let her know any questions they have or feedback at the end of the class, etc Yes, it was a bit more challenging than other RTA courses, but the material here was even really helpful in other courses too. Maybe she just improved
As someone who tends to "thug it out" with bad courses, this course should seriously only be taken if it's absolutely mandatory. I've never struggled so much. Lectures and course content are terrible, assignment instructions do not make sense in the slightest, and grading is so inconsistent and unfair it's unbelievable.
It's not that the course material is particularly difficult. Dr. Soudi just doesn't have a knack for teaching and makes it 10X more confusing than it needs to be. I have never experienced such unengaging and useless lectures before. You're fully reliant on the textbook, thoughts, prayers and YT tutorials and you have to teach yourself everything.
I typically learn things after taking courses, but this year I ended up more confused than ever. The grading was confusing because she had multiple criteria in different locations with different instructions. I did not feel like she had my best interests in mind as a student. The first few lectures don't have anything to do with the subject.
RTA 912 was the worst mandatory I have taken so far in RTA. Prof Soudi's lectures were dull and most of time felt unattached from the course content. I was confused and constantly stressed. The assignment descriptions were unclear and written by AI. Why should I care about the reports i'm writing if the assignment sheets have been written by AI?
Prof was more confused than the students. Though she did know the material, she was not clear with what she wants in the assignment. More than half of the time students were confused and were not given clear instructions. This course needs to be revamped overall. Interesting content but executed poorly.
I thought everyone was exaggerating but truly, this class was so frustrating. Assignment sheets were unclear, spread across a few sources, and often had different/vague information. Afsoon is knowledgeable about the work, and the content is interesting- this course needs restructuring and a bit more grace so students don't lose sight of that.
Listen, it is important to immerse yourself in diverse mandatory courses within your undergraduate career, but where and when is the line drawn when the whole class (and every class before it) is extensively displeased. With exceptionally unclear expectations and assignments that refuse to adapt, this course will continuously be set up for failure.
Dr. Afsoon is not a teacher. This is very clear. She is terrible with lectures. Though she requires participation quizzes to mark you here, participation is worth 20% of your mark, which makes sense why she makes it such a big deal, because no one wants to go to her lectures. Her lectures are terrible and useless, just read the textbook.
The course content is very interesting and useful. However, the professor does not actually teach anything or explain the assignments in any meaningful way. But just read the textbook and assignment sheets (there are often several per assignment) and you will be fine. There is no need to insult her, but the course is not taught well.
