Loved this class. It doesn't always seem like the course is building an argument about the importance of film and literature as a stalwart against the age of fascism and AI, but looking at my notes it's clear that's what she was doing. Respect the breadth of her text choices, mostly things I'd never see on my own. Loved the NFB film Ryan.
She talks A LOT. She most likely won't get to the topic of the actual class until half an hour in. She's nice, but also doesn't explain her assignments enough. Her instructions are both very detailed while remaining very vague. It also takes her a while to grade.
Great class, great prof! Very interesting content and the assignments are engaging and enjoyable.
She doesn't prepare her test guidelines very far in advance which makes it hard to study. She is very caring and passionate about the course material. Read the stories and take notes on the vocabulary in the slides.
don't skip this class. nice woman, kind of rambles a lot, didn't reply to my email though. her grading can be kinda hard but honestly it's valid. just make an effort, and stay on top of readings cuz they will pile up. i didn't enjoy the content much but overall class and prof are mid
Super sweet! As long as you keep up with the readings (easy to do since they're short stories) you should be fine. Even if you aren't, it's super easy to talk to her and get some guidance or other help. She talks beyond her slides so it's easier if you go to class and pay attention. Overall, I'd say she's super great as a professor.
Absolutely love this prof, I hope I have her again. This was a "Short Story" class, so we had readings (usually 1-2) every week. The lectures are sometimes off topic but still very interesting. She is VERY helpful and considerate. Basically, you can tell she loves teaching and wants students to pass and do well!
Tschofen's one of English's genuinely great profs. She's been on sabbatical or I'd take more courses from her. Theory is hard for some students. I really appreciate her handholding if you need it and letting you run or soar if you don't want it. Plus she genuinely and deeply cares about her students.
I was a pretty lackluster student while in her class, but later remembered she had mentioned that she would be available over the summer to talk about grad school and conferences and competitions. True. I presented a paper at a conference and applied to grad school with her helping me through multiple drafts till I had a winning application.
Working with Tschofen is an absolute dream. She knows how to pull your best ideas out of you, and keep going when it feels hard and bleak.
