Took Cultural Production of the Self with Prof C at UofT. A philosophically-challenging course that changed my PhD trajectory. Expect to rethink everything in her courses. Group study, self study, journal study. Amazing listener. Asked our thoughts on existence and actually cared to know. Cons: Tough on the "know-it-alls." A difficult marker.
I'm one of Dr. C's graduate students at University of Toronto. Where do I even start? She challenges us on an existential plane. Our feelings matter and are a place for learning in her classes. There's no hiding. Her teaching goes beyond teaching. I highly recommend taking a class with her.
Tough professor but she's a legend among the students. Thanks for being a human being and not an emotionless robot like the rest of them, Doctor C -- one of your many Queen's U faithful
Queen's Student here: Professor C is the best professor I've ever had in my undergraduate career. She will challenge you ( she like hates boring essay writing ) so if you're not up to the challenge of creative writing and thinking outside the box, don't take her courses.
Dr. C treated us like actual humans with valuable perspectives. Vibe in seminar was always warm. Assignments were interesting. You can tell shes been teaching for a long time. Class was like therapy. For me she helped me think differently about my disabilities (ADHD & fibromyalgia). Like maybe I can actually love myself like this? Thanks, Dr. C.
DR. C, YOUR UNDERGRADS AT QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY LOVE YOU. WE CAN'T CHANGE THE COURSE CODE ON THIS SITE BUT THANK U FOR EVERYTHING. WE MISS U ALREADY.
Dr. C favours students who care and want to do well. Put in the work and you'll get an A in her courses.
Prof C got to know most of our names in a 100+ person lecture. She writes thoughtful reference letters and cares about her students. She's a genius for sure... like all geniuses though, the philosophizing in class went over some of our heads during lecture. Three hours/week for philosophy of disability isn't enough... wish our classes were longer.
Professor C favoured certain students and it was obvious. Went to office hours and there were always many people to going these. Hint: If half the class goes to office hours, there is a problem with teaching/ explaining during class.
Dr. C's course was less "traditional soc" and more "philosophy," which made it more interesting. she's smart, sweet, and also, not to be messed with. ppl skipped class and still expected to be handheld through the term... lol smh. The formula for getting an A in her class? Read, attend lecture, go to office hours, and idk try to care about school.
