She is extremely unreasonable and unhelpful with her feedback. Goes back on her feedback all the time and is indirect. Will never give you a clear answer and is very mean in the way she helps you with a condescending tone.
I've taken Hayley in both JRN272 and JRN 303, and I would personally say she does better in smaller class sizes. In other words, you'll enjoy her better in 303. She's really engaging, and you can really see she loves what she does through her lectures! She's also really encouraging
I wish I had something good to say. This course was enjoyable, but no thanks to Hayley. She was argumentative and her feedback was more personal than professional. I felt very let down and disrespected during this course and many others left feeling just as frustrated. The biggest skill I learned was how to advocate for myself in her classroom.
I found that her lectures were very practical and actually gave insight into what the world of journalism is like today. Her advice was less speculative and way more concrete. Can't speak to her labs though...
Hayley is cool, but the way this course was structured was not it. There was alot of mismanagement in the first half of the semester (which is not completely her fault) but luckily she is sympathetic towards people's situations and a fair marker. If you are planning to take this course, my advice is to find out if there are rotations. If yes, run!
I've had Hayley three times (NNS/JRN344, JRN525, JRN303) and have always gotten an A- or higher. She genuinely cares about her students and is very helpful both in and out of class. She gives opportunities for extra marks (our verbal story pitches were 5% and participation was 10%) and helps you create the best possible newsroom quality pitch.
awesome prof and awesome class ! had fun guest speakers. Hayley really cares about students' works and provides very detailed feedback. she is kind and caring, offering extensions when students need them. she has a lot of knowledge and experience both as a journalist and as a prof. :)
