Professor Debree is super sweet and enjoys actively engaging the class in discussion. French isn't my first language so I always struggle a bit at the beginning of a new class, and I found Professor Debree's office hours very helpful. You can tell that she genuinely wants her students to do well. I would definitely take another class with her!
Shes an extremely sweet and nice professor! She cares about students and keep going over the same stuff over and over till we get them. There is a lot of hw but her tests and exams are really easy. just show up to class . take notes and tests will be the same. if you have any issues she will help you. she's very nice and approachable!
I was looking forward to taking this course, instead was really disappointed in her teaching methods & I agree that she is condescending. She would target and pick on students to the point they didn't show up to class anymore. Not organized in her teaching, is all over the place and gets off topic. Would not recommend her as a prof.
Her tests are very hard because of her terrible teaching method. It's hard to judge what will be on the test as she isn't structured, rants a lot, and throws the most randomest things on the test. Also she is a nitpicky in terms of the assignment. I thought this was a business class, however I spent more time learning grammar and "mots de famille"
This is a good class to take if you like a lot small assignments that don't take more than a day to complete. There were no major projects or group work outside of class. Her lectures are a bit dry and were pretty hard to sit through... but the work is easy peasy.
Condescending to say the least. Talks to you like you're a helpless child. Lectures drag on unnecessarily. Also, she gets super confused all the time. This class is supposed to focus on French to English translation and yet most of the exercises are to improve your French writing skills? She's a French teacher, not a translation teacher. Avoid.
Was expecting a bad prof according to reviews, but she's nothing like them. One of the only French profs here who make a French class engaging and she actually teaches really well. Extremely approachable, can ask her anything and she's willing to help you. Everything she puts on the board on the test. Fair marker, but you must attend class.
One of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. Her handouts are confusing and she explains things in a way that is a lot more complex than it needs to be. Very understanding if you need to be late or absent. Is so lenient and is willing to help. Overall: great character and personality, just maybe not the best at teaching things clearly.
She takes her work seriously and expects you to do the same. If you want a pass grade, make sure you want to learn french. She tends to target your weaknesses and will consistently bug you until you get it right. Attendence is a must. She's a reasonable grader and has loads of energy in her.
I have studied French for well over a decade and she is by far the best professor I have ever had.
