He's passionate about the hip hop course content and is engaging. I found the TA to be a tough marker for a lower liberal elective. The fluid, vaguer assignment guidelines and the TA's marking did not feel aligned. Get all the attendance/participatory marks. They'll boost your mark. This course will be a lot of work so come in knowing that.
Inaccessible, doesn't reply to emails. TAs are strict and test questions try to trick you. My TA would start class early and hold us back 30 mins after class and then give attendance marks. The prof is pretty lax but the TAs are not. There seemed to be a disconnect between the profs teaching and the TA's teaching. I wouldn't recommend taking.
The professor is really nice but the exams have a lot of trick questions and are hard. The TA was a bit of a hard marker, the research essay was hard and did not give clear feedback. The lectures don't matter at all in the exams and the TA basically teaches most of the stuff that impact the exams. I would not take this unless it's a required course
i took this class in winter 2025, he was so easy and understanding, i was able to hand in things late without penalty as long as i gave notice, i ended off with a 98% and he was such a good teacher and very into what he was lecturing about, i loved him as a prof
i had a much better time with this prof in this course than with soc470. he is a really nice and understanding prof, and i enjoyed this class. it is a bit lame to have to come to a 9am to learn how to make a cover letter, but i found a lot of aspects super helpful. i wish prof was better at answering emails bc he'd get much better ratings imo !!
Lecture were fine, but off topic at times. TA is easy to talk to and knows the material well. Grading was tough, though. The average of the midterm and final exam was in the 50s but then again the exam questions are heavily based on the readings, so if you don't do them, you won't pass the exams.
Professor reads off the slides, but is nice and easy to talk to. TA initially seemed cold, but once you talk to him, you'll realize he's quite friendly. Tough grader, but knows the materials and what he's talking about. Mandatory course with lots of readings. Midterm and final are not that tough if you prepare ahead of time. Paper topics were tough
Professor is not accessible outside of classroom and is unresponsive to student emails. TA was knowledgeable, understanding, helpful, and offered constructive feedback on assignments. Midterm and final exams both consist of multiple-choice and true & false questions that are based on the lectures, tutorials, and readings. Do the readings!!!
Professor was nice, but never responded to emails. Fortunately, the TA was always available. He was super nice, approachable, responded to emails on time, taught and explained key concepts really well. He even extended the essay deadline. Sure, the midterm and exams were tough, but as long as you do the readings, you will do well.
