I would not take this class again. It is extremely textbook heavy the exams are very hard. Instead of testing on general understanding of concepts there is very niche questions being asked during the exams. As well, the material that is taught in this class goes far beyond an entry elective class. Stay away.
I took this course out of interest, but Iyer was such a repetitive, dry teacher. Her HEAVY textbook readings taught me more than her very surface level lectures, which she doesn't explain well. The textbook readings are assigned way too frequently for an elective, and there's way too much content to balance with my other courses (nursing major)
Arguably one of the worst professors at TMU. She does not know what she is saying half the time and if you're confused you better not be. She fails to explain what she is talking about and rambles on irrelevant topics that have nothing to do with the course. Also, making us buy a $90 textbook ONLINE so we can access assignments is a new low.
Professor Iyer was a great professor. She was very passionate in what she taught. I believe her midterms and exams were also very manageable. She does tend to ramble a bit, but overall, if you could follow through, it is not too bad!
mandatory textbook, iclicker, ramblings that make it into the tests, forgets to post projects in D2L, degrades students in class, incorrect/ misleading information when not using the textbook. if you have her class just switch to chang school or just stay at home and use the textbook.
One of the stricter profs I have had. I took CCHY142 in the spring with her, basically accelerated Orgo I. Went in with the mindset that this was going to be an extremely hard course. Finished the class with an A and it was extremely doable!! Just stay on top of the assigned homework questions and try to stay focused during her lectures.
Took CHY183 because I have a personal interest in criminal forensics, but her attitude was just not it. Forgets what she's discussed in all of her lectures every. Single. Class. You can learn more from the $90 textbook or reading the lecture slides yourself than going to her lectures.
I took CHY183 also because I thought it would be fun, however the professor completely ruined the experience for me. Her style of teaching is very messy and difficult to understand at times. She came to class with an uninviting attitude-- I don't think I've heard her laugh or smile even once.
Dr. Rajeshwari Iyer's Organic chemistry course was a stressful experience. Her teaching style was not for me, so using the textbook was the only way I could get through the course. She was difficult to approach and ask questions.
Professors who teach hard subjects like this are better at explaining but I genuinely didn't understand a thing from her lectures. The textbook is your best friend and honestly, I had to skip class and just study from the textbook because nothing made sense. Disorganized, not very friendly, hard to approach. Pick someone else!!!
