Gave additional tasks for no extra credit and expected perfect results. Nicole was intimidating and unpredictable and work was often not good enough. This class made me rethink my degree and career path, so learn to say no speak and up for yourself if you want to succeed
This class made me so passionate about going into TV news. There are 6 news days, and you rotate through new roles each week like: reporter, anchor, camera/editor, teleprompter, producer, etc. You also work on a group feature. This was the hardest one. But if you show up to class, follow the rubric and ask for help when needed, you'll do great.
Had Nicole in first year, she was great. Had her again this year (third year) can't say the same. I wanted to like this class, great newsroom experience but she made it so difficult to enjoy. I felt she favoured certain students and disregarded others. Newsroom days were intense and a lot of work. The course really isn't hard: Nicole makes it hard
I wanted to love this course, but couldn't. Nicole adores this class but the way it was delivered was off putting. Definitely a good newsroom experience even if that's a newsroom from several decades ago. Tv days were tense, fragile and precarious and Nicole was feared by many. Has a lot of potential but seemed to make people hate broadcast.
Nicole definitely has a lot of experience in newsrooms. That said she expected us to be ah the level of working journalists and often gave additional tasks for no extra points and if you messed up either one it was still on you. The expectations were almost too high and unfair so learn to say no and have self respect and you'll be fine.
She's a very knowledgeable journalist who has a lot of great insight but doesn't really teach. Her lectures are online and only (maybe) 25% is her lecturing. The TAs were the ones who taught us and luckily mine was great. I would've liked to hear from her a bit more, considering her experience.
Nicole was great at explaining things clearly and gave us great advice when it came to broadcasting. Ask her for help if you need it. Be communicative and show up to this class (JRN314) if youre taking it. It's great experience and super fun! You'll do well if you show up and put the effort in. I would totally recommend Nicole! :))
Nicole is a great person! very caring and well credited in the Industry. The class is quite easy depending on what lab prof you get. Her lectures are online and pretty boring although it is manageable. Nicole made my first year university experience a good time. Course is pretty easy and contains some very interesting assignments. Would recommend!
Do your participation points! Lecture are online and easy to follow, she tries really hard to make them interesting and engaging.
Nicole was great! really caring and respected her students. Her lectures were kinda boring, but manageable since they were online. TAs did all the marking, I had Shenaz and she was ok. Nicole has an impressive resume in the Journalism industry and I enjoyed her class. The class is really creative and an overall fun class with minimal difficulty.
