Teaching lacks clarity and structure Lectures are difficult to follow and not student-friendly Limited support or guidance when students struggle Serious concerns with how academic integrity issues are handled Felt presumed guilty rather than supported Creates a stressful environment rather than a learning-focused one
It was a pleasure to be in Professor Karatas' class. He is clearly passionate about thermodynamics and explains concepts thoroughly, focusing on why things work rather than just how to solve problems. His lectures were clear, and the examples he did in class were helpful for the midterm/final exam. He loves going over the history of thermodynamics.
Lectures are very heavy, they are full of theory but with few example problems. Don't waste your time doing the posted practice problems, as all midterm and final questions are from the textbook (he also curves). Additionally, his lectures miss out important equations that you will need from tests, so you'll need to read the textbook.
Not bad per se, but he has WAY too much theory in his lectures and not enough examples. Also doesn't go over all the equations/formulas that might be use in practice problems or exams so read the textbook
Not bad a professor, make sure to use textbook and past exams to practice, his lectures have way too much theory and he only like puts one of those theory questions on the exam. He a funny and chill guy though, ignore his in class problems those are useless and way too hard for no reason.
Not sure why Karatas is anything less than a 5. Lecture slides were neat and organized, and he was always knowledgeable about what he was talking about. He would regularly walk us through practice problems in class, and went over midterms with us. Grading scheme was fair too. tl;dr, 5/5 prof, only yapped if necessary, easiest 4.33 of my life.
Overall a great prof, just try to attend every lecture and do problems from the textbook and you should be good. He gives lots of partial marks for test, and midterms
Prof. Karatas's class was an absolute disaster. His teaching relied solely on the textbook, and he exuded zero passion. He was not just unprofessional, but downright rude and belittling during discussions. A truly abysmal experience; I wouldn't wish his course on my worst enemy.
AER309 is quite difficult to begin with. Didn't find lectures helpful at all. Do the problems in the textbook. He uses literally the same questions. Practice problems that he posts on D2L are useless.
One of the worst engineering profs I have had. He explains things in a way that is tough for you to understand. If you ask questions he is impatient.
