Professor Landau is a great professor. She has a lot of negative reviews and can be intimidating, but the truth is she just really wants her students to succeed. She genuinely cares as long as you do. Show up to class, put in the work and you will definitely receive a positive grade. Attend matters because she gives hints for her assignments.
All the bad reviews seem to come from students who skipped class and didn't show up. Everything that was graded was clearly discussed beforehand, so there were no surprises. She's very knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about what she teaches. If you attend, pay attention, and stay engaged, you'll do well in her course.
A very knowledgeable Professor when you get to know her. She may come across as blunt or intimidating but it's simply because she wants her students to succeed. Tests and exams are all based directly off lectures and readings so pay attention, make notes and you will be fine. A bit of a tough grader, does not like to give A's. Interesting class.
The class has two tests and a final exam. Material is posted and reads off the slides. I found the marking tougher than expected and the delivery style didn't work well for me, but some classmates preferred it. If you want alternatives, Khan or Kholia teach this course too.
This class was not easy. The grading was hard to adjust to, but once you understand what she wants you're fine. She's strict and quite rude when upset during lectures, but all the slides are posted so attendance is not even mandatory. My guide to getting a good grade is over-explaining and knowing ALL concepts; not short-term memorization.
Take Khan or Kholia. AWFUL.. literally when they say she acts like a hs teacher they're not lying. Very tough grader. 2 exam and a final exam worth 40%. Strong attitude
I'm taking this class currently and the professor is very stern and rude. Her vibe is completely just negative and she makes me not want to attend lectures.
Prof Landau, is rude, lecture's are boring, and god forbid you share a comment or ask a question, she shoots you right down and talks over you. Her tests are weighed heavy and you're only marked on 3 things. She acts more like a high school teacher then anything. She is extremely tough especially for a primarily first year course.
Looking at the ratings, Dr. Landau is different for seminar than for her other classes. She is very passionate about social justice, and very knowledgable. There wasn't a lot of items to be graded on, but I got 100 on the presentation and outline by following instructions. Wrongful convictions was a very interesting seminar.
Dr. Landau is super strict and expects a lot. Especially for a primarily first year course, she seemed to be so done with everyone and everything, and was really intimidating to students that were just starting uni. She has more of the vibe of a high school teacher as opposed to a prof. Her lecture slides and material overall are not great either
