CMN 279 is very easy. Prof. Sibo Chen's course is no exception, but his course is only easy as far as the actual course material goes. The grading is just putrid, extremely tough grader, it seems he advises his TAs to grade as if they have something to prove. I would still recommend CMN 279 as a course; take it with a different professor.
He seems like a nice guy (given a few emails). However he is an incredibly tough grader. This course is an extremely easy course, but he takes off a lot marks for small things. An example: I got marks off for not having enough contrast between my heading text and body text (my heading was bolded, two sizes larger, and in a different colour).
He cares about what he teaches and tries to engage the class in discussion. He's also accommodating and easy to reach. The quizzes are crazyyy though, they brought my grade down by so much for no reason. They're so irrelevant but count for 30%.
I think some of my peers are a bit tough on Sibo. He's a really caring prof who wants to see his students succeed. I've had 4 classes with him and been in tough spots where I required extensions and he gave them to me without hesitation or judgment, even when I asked at the last minute. He responds to emails and does his best to keep it interesting
You can tell he puts a lot of effort in his slides and lectures. He's very knowledgeable and gives a lot of relevant/cotemporary examples and case studies. Lectures can feel a little repetitive but it's worth it imo!
I was a bit skeptical going into his class but he turned out to be a great prof! His grading criteria aren't the clearest in terms of writing (you won't find a detailed document telling you exactly how to do the work) but he explains everything well in his lectures & posted slides, so as long as you pay attention in class, you'll do well.
even though the class was boring and essays were repetitive, he tried his best to be engaging. he played actually good music for the first 10 minutes of class and provided breaks in between. its easy to get good grades as long as you have an idea of whats going on. i definitely recommend him.
Professor Chen was an amazing and easy going teacher in the course Intercultural Communications. We had three short essays (easy-medium difficulty) and a multimedia project on which me and my group received 100%. If you like this kind of course, youll enjoy it and receive a great mark. He also gives great feedback. He wants to see you win.
Amazing prof, super understanding and gives good feedback. The prof also gives extensions without penalties when needed.
Sibo is really a great professor. He is passionate about his subject. This is a course requires you speak with others a lot. Tests are open book and straightforward.
