This professor made the class far more frustrating than it needed to be. Their lectures were disorganized, often jumping between topics without clear explanations, and it felt like they expected students to already know the material. Asking questions didn't help much either, since responses were usually vague or dismissive.
Take the class with a different instructor.
Words won't do justice to the sad educational experience I received from this class.
FREE ME FROM THE SHACKLES OF THIS COURSE!!! I'm finally free, BUT it wasn't worth all the stress. Like all these recent reviews say, the expectations placed on us to know things we've never actually been taught, because courses like this unfortunately don't exist, are seriously unrealistic. Also, cumulative exams suck.
Perhaps the university should reevaluate this course. It's an important step in education, but the pressure to learn so much in 12 weeks is tough. Maybe it could be a full year course, or split into parts covering different time periods or Indigenous peoples in Canada. All this to say, his teaching style just doesn't suit this kind of course.
Extremely unrealistic expectations. Unless you have a doctorate in Indigenous history don't expect to do good. No clear instructions or grading criteria for assignments. Attendance is mandatory and participation is required for a good grade however there is no room for the participation that he requires. He is not a good teacher, you learn nothing
Pretty decent prof. Super considerate/willing when it comes to extensions. I will say I don't entirely like the way he lectures, for a course like indigenous histories it's hard to know what to make note of and what not to, especially with the amount of topics we covered. Also no information on his slides, mostly maps and videos.
Don't listen to the negative reviews. He's one of the most caring and dedicated professors I've ever met and if you just come to class and do the readings its a fun, easy and engaging class. Really knows his stuff and is always willing to help with your research in any way he can.
Dr. Mosbay is a smart and caring professor; he cares about his students and is easy to get in contact with outside of class. He is a fair grader, and as long as you go to class and try, you'll get a good mark.
Extremely rude and unnecessary sense of self importance. Clearly hates women and thinks he's above them. Gives absolutely ZERO information on how your assignments will be grades and says you must participate (not just attend) in lectures and tutorials (25%) but give ZERO room for discussion or a chance for you to participate.
