This course was taught a lot better than CCPS 305 (taught by the same professor), as there's a course textbook that you can refer to which may be a better source of reference. Some of the group assignments were way more difficult than the examples he covers in class/textbooks. The midterms/final exams mirrors the class content covered.
Data Structures is one of the most fundamental topics in CS and Jimmy does a horrible job at teaching it, don't take this course with him. he is writing fake positive ratings to offset his negatives! DO NOT take this course with him, absolutely ruined it for me!!
avoid this prof at all costs, he does not teach the concepts properly and does not prepare you well for the midterms/final. lacks empathy for his students and is extremely rude and disorganized in class. taking this course with him will KILL your gpa.
This was one of the most organized course I took so far. Clear grading criteria and you know what to expect in the tests. His lectures for this particular course and fun and engaging.
WARNING: Unless you have deep knowledge of Arduino, a passion for building robots, and 2-3 people you can trust to take this course with you, please, DONT TAKE THIS COURSE for the sake of your GPA and sanity. They do not teach you AT ALL, they are tough markers and you are expected to have all the prior knowledge needed before you take this course.
Jimmy Tran is unprofessional, disorganized, and rude. His lectures are irrelevant, often starting late with no useful information. He grades female groups unfairly and belittles students, making them feel incompetent. The TA, Liam, does most of the work, offering clear feedback, while Jimmy wonders why students don't attend his lectures.
2 Midterms and 1 Final with a redemption clause - 20 MCQ and 30 MCQ. By no means an easy course, it's serious data structures and Jimmy's very good at them, but if you're less experienced with them, it may be very hard to stay on pace with the course and be prepared for the content. Put in serious work if you want to do well. You'll need it.
1) Class average for his tests is ~50-60%. 2) Course has a redemption clause. 3) Tests are all multiple choice. 4) Professor does not provide adequate feedback on your marks nor provides helpful answers to your questions. 5) Course covers the most fundamental, crucial to know topics in computer science. Conclusion: enjoy being set up for failure!
His lectures are way too fast and he does not explain things well. His notes are useless, and exams are full of tricks + question styles that can't be found elsewhere so you can't prepare. But mainly - he takes pride in the class average being low. He enjoys the fact that many kids fail his course. That should tell you all you need to know.
Unlike in CCPS350, he taught close to the textbook. Labs and tests also closely resembled the practice exercises from the book. As long as you are willing to spend time reading, this course is easy.
