Although this professor is very nice, her marking unfortunately is not worth the class. She is the most difficult grader I've ever witnessed at TMU. Even if you read weekly readings and attend lectures, you will still end up in the 60% range.
Awful teacher and really boring class. You won't learn anything, don't take it as an extra credit. Only marked by 2 really easy assignments and 2 exams. Do the readings and take notes, you will pass. Hard grader for some reason but you can fight for your grades if you care.
This was a lovely course with an excellent professor. She exalts effort, and the level of detail in her examinations are consistent with the amount of time we have to prepare. There are no written assignments, you have 6 weeks to understand 5 lectures and 15 readings, if you are unable to do that by third year I would suggest not taking this course
Its really unfortunate that she's such a hard grader because the course content is interesting. She assigns a lot of reading and expects you to remember very specific detail related to specific scholars THAN expects you to write in class paper on them - closed book! Her expectations are unreasonable and so is her style of grading. good luck
This prof is good and knows what she's talking about. Her views are very progressive and she teaches the course (Issues in Third World Politics) the way I believe it should be taught. Nothing worse than a conservative political science teacher! But this is not a bird course. You MUST show up and do your readings in order to do well.
Interesting content, but the grading system needs an overhaul. Despite dedicated study, attending all classes, and doing required readings, achieving a low 70s grade feels unattainable on tough midterms and finals. TA's influence on grading and high expectations contribute. Regrettably, despite engaging material, I wouldn't recommend this class.
Unless you have no other choice, avoid this prof. Her and her TA's grade very harshly and give no useful feedback. This prof has a particularly 'my way or the highway' attitude, her perception of herself is that she is always right. Slides have garbage formatting, are bland, and are hard to follow; lots of useless quotes, no section headers. AVOID.
She is a very kind professor but she and the TAs mark harshly. Possible to do well but you must know the scholarly readings inside out for exams and papers, and really pay attention in lectures. The content was really interesting though.
Very kind and gives great lectures but is a tough marker. I still highly recommend the course.
While the course content was interesting, this professor made it a terrible experience. Specifically, the grading in this course is harsh and unreasonable and the feedback is very limited. Our class averages were in the 60s and 70s. I am an A student and many other A students did not do as well in this course too. Avoid this prof at all costs!
