Hongbing Yu

I had class with Mr. Yu for CHS 504 in my freshman year and again this year for SEM 101. He is an amazing professor—very outgoing, easy to communicate with, and always gives helpful feedback. As long as you stay engaged and attend every lecture and tutorial, his class is very manageable and fair.

Dr Yu is an awesome prof! He has a disdain for parroting what others say and keeps questioning received opinions in classes and textbooks to facilitate students' learning. I've taken a couple of courses with him, and loved the class seminars and the lectures. Just thought-provoking! Highly recommend his classes

Prof Yu is immaculate. He is caring, passionate, and so nice. There was 1 book to read the whole sem (1-2 chapters per week), 2 papers (1000 words), 2 small and fun presentations end of sem, and 1 seminar recording sheet (automatic 100). The material is interesting and kinda mixed w sociology. Seminars were fun! Easy to get a good mark. Would recc.

Also took his LIR200. Wonderful and amazing experiences! You could feel his genuine care for students in class and seminars. I was amazed by the critical mind he brought to every lecture. Best prof ever

Prof. Yu is a caring professor who wants you to break outside your mental comfort zone and learn to think in a different way. He's a good conversationalist and the lectures allows you to participate in non-judgmental discussions. He is a nice person and I enjoyed listening to his lectures. I learned a lot from this course.

Prof Yu is a great guy. He'll randomly crack jokes and he's very down to earth. The quizzes were super simple and the papers were really fun to write (both around 1500 words, less than 2k for sure). He did do 'seminars' for the last hour of class where you do a 30 sec talk abt what you learned w your group. Its not that serious, just do it lol.

He is such a good professor, one of the best one I've had. He makes every class fun and engaging while following the course outline while using the required textbooks. He teaches stuff that are outside the textbook which I find very interesting. I would definitely take this Hongbing Yu if I every get the chance to again.

Such a good professor, I just wished I went to more of his classes. Super understanding, overall a great speaker that genuinely provoked new thoughts and ideas. He allows others to speak and give their input and works off that. If you're thinking of taking this class or you have him as a teacher, he's the nicest teacher I had my whole first year

He radically changed the course and will convince you to get rid of your preconceived ideas of "culture". Inspirational and brings up thought-provoking points that may be difficult to break down but are beneficial. He's definitely not for everyone, but his teachings are applicable to your life.
