Ali is a tough but fair grader, provides detailed feedback on topic proposal & essay. Answers emails and will help if you ask! Modules were somewhat dry with A LOT of readings that are needed for both discussion posts & tests. 5 discussion posts 20%, midterm/essay/exam 25% each, essay proposal 5%. Nice prof, interesting asynchronous socio elective.
So much reading! You have to participate every week(critically appraising 2 articles). The exam was online, essay style responses to theory q's. I only watched a few (maybe 2) of his lectures and was still able to get an A-, there was a lot of homework, assignments, presentation, and an exam. He was an alright teacher though, gives feedback too.
I would not recommend this course if you are trying to boost your grade. Professor Ali grades hard and docks marks for minor details rather than overall content. Although usually your own words are preferred, make sure to add a lot of direct quotations or else the rest of your work does not matter.
Prof was nice and very knowledgeable about the subject. Very heavy on readings. Course content focused so much on Covid which I was so tired of reading and writing about but I guess it makes sense considering its relevance in society today.
Dr. Asgharzadeh is a great and super caring prof. took this as an elective (im a bio major) and content was very easy. asynch. class w/ 3 papers, exam and weekly discussion posts (no midterm) based on easy to understand articles. literally do your work and its an easy A. bonus is the prof is very understanding and informative if you have questions.
Boring lectures, harsh marking on assignments, excessive criteria for weekly discussion posts. Avoid if possible.
Professor Ali is a great prof. He always responded in a timely manner and always provided great feedback. He takes referencing seriously so be sure whatever format you're using, is done correctly. I took SOC103 it was going at your own pace with weekly modules and readings. Midterm/Exam- and two short assignments!
There was a lot of reading and weekly posting in this course, but if it wasn't for his feedback on my 1st assignment, I would not have got an A and improved my APA skills. I am grateful to profs who give critical feedback but also allow you room to do better. He is extremely knowledgeable but his recorded lectures are very monotone.
The course overall was good and current with today's society. It is heavy in regards to the amount of reading, and he asks for critical analysis weekly of two articles which was a lot. He likes to see that you know your APA, so brush up on those skills when you're writing his papers. And make sure you know what critical analysis is as well.
Rediculously hard headed and anal prof. This was a lower liberal class, this guy has made it so heavy with papers upon papers. I wish I didn't waste my money on this guy.
