This Professor is presumably the most competent member of the entire faculty and would strongly recommend them if you're looking to refine your ideas. Professor McDowell also cares more about critical analysis and this allows for a significant amount of academic creative freedom; and won't attack you for assuming novel positionality that isn't woke

The course itself is all online so you dont have any lectures with him. Overall fair marker and the content isn't overly difficult. Super nice when you need something over email. Take home exam was pretty fair and not difficult. Overall interesting class imo if you like this stuff.

Great prof overall, makes you work for your grade but is very doable.

I agree with my classmates' positive reviews. Those who wonder what an A+ entails: participate in every discussion with good analysis, not just taking up space. 2 papers need a lot of research and clear writing, he wants a well-developed argument. Use outside sources, my papers had 25+ references. Used an old edition of text, it was fine.

Dr. McDowell makes you work for your grade. That being said, the mark you get it really up to you! He provides excelled feedback and has everything marked within 48 hours! Not impossible, but not a piece of cake!

I found this class to be very enjoyable surprisingly. I chose this class just as a summer course but I ended up actually like the class. The prof gives great feedback on essays. He makes you work for your grade but if you participate on the discussion board and do the readings you'll do well. Also, he was very helpful whenever I asked questions

I don't really understand the ratings here. I guess ppl just don't like doing work for a class? The class is asynchronous, so you have that 3 hours during the week to read the module, do the discussion question and responses. Tom is a nice guy, very responsive, the two seminars we had were great. However, he is a tough grader, hard to get an A.

everyone says the discussion posts are dumb, however, they are very easy and worth 40%!! the paper is worth 35% and is marked fairly. The exam is 25% and was a take home, this course is done properly and the prof is great, very enjoyable and informative class.

Overall nice teacher, however he makes you do 400-500 minimum for a discussion post WEEKLY, and we also had these live discussions over zoom, hated this class the most. avoid this professor

He's very helpful and answers quickly. However, his grading criteria is not very clear. He expects too much from the class especially when it is in an intro course. Not sure what A+ level work is..
