dont even have this prof but i come back here yearly to hate on him
He seems like a nice person but he is not a good teacher. He barely does examples in the slides and he basically just reads off the slides, he also seems really uninterested in what he's teaching making it hard to focus. If you have him don't bother going to class and just learn it yourself.
Lectures are kind of helpful, labs are super easy, tutorials are more difficult. Sometimes the tutorials covered topics that we hadn't learned yet which was kind of annoying. If you do all the practice problems and old tests they provide you will do well.
Not that bad of a prof, but his lectures can be pretty long and he sometimes overcomplicates explanations. It's easy to reach out to him outside of class and he's nice and willing to explain questions and general stuff about the course. You definitely need to practice and do work (recommended textbook questions and practice exams are great)
The one thing is that he was very theory heavy for an introductory course. He could spend more time showing the application of concepts, but it's not hard to do well in his class if you do your work. The midterm and final barely go deeper than a surface level application of the concepts you learn. Overall, he was a good professor
AVOID AVOID AVOID! they say dont worry if you never taken physics then make the midterm and final as if we know physics? make it make sense. Eric is also clueless half the time and cant make the tests understandable. we have to explain our choice for a multiple choice if we dont we get it wrong even if it is right?
He spends more time teaching how equations can be deviated for the question. I took physics in high school, so I was able to understand majority of the content, however if you didn't, you have to pay full attention during his lectures. He includes some multiple choices within the slides, and ask the class to answer. I found it helped a little bit.
AWFUL, rants during lectures, does not teach!
you can absolutely pass PCS120 with Eric de Giuli if you haven't taken physics in high school :) i didn't take physics in high school (grade 11 or 12) and i passed his lectures are kind of useless, but he does little poll quiz questions that count for a few marks the textbook is your best friend; so read it, take notes, and do practice questions!
