Absolutely loved this class and the prof, she was always super happy to help and created incredibly engaging lectures and the readings were always managable and relevant. As long as you follow the advice she gives and do most of the readings with decent preparation before exams you should do well. If you like history, you'll love her and her class!
Great professor, gives a lot of good information and interesting lectures. She engaged with students a lot and encourages questions. Highly recommend her courses, she's quite funny at times and an all around great class. Attendance isn't mandatory to pass the class but it is advised to understand the content and do well on exams.
Probably my favourite class I've taken so far at TMU. Prof. Hehmeyer is very engaging, passionate and quite funny if you pay attention. There's something about her presence that is just magnetic, I looked forward to her classes every week. If you attend class (sit at the front) and do the readings you'll have a wonderful time.
Anyone that has rated Dr. Hehmeyer poorly just does not want to go to class. Her lectures are important and you have to attend, her slideshows only support her lectures and do not carry all the info you need. She is a fair marker and if you put in effort you will get good grades. A sweet, wonderful woman. I hope to take a class with her again.
She was one of my first professors and she really knows her stuff, intelligent and inspiring woman. A lot of people took this course thinking it was war related but she teaches the history of medicine so be aware. Either way I really enjoyed the class, there is a lot of reading to do but if you attend the lectures and take notes it should be fine!
Professor Hehmeyer is a wonderful professor. She takes the course seriously and if you want to pass you need to take the material seriously as well. She cares about her students. Go to as many office hours as you can. She may seem intimidating at first, but she has been my favorite prof in the history program!
Dr. Hehmeyer is a fabulous professor. The lectures are informative and the midterm and tutorials reflected exactly what was covered in class. As long as you do the readings, participate in lectures and take notes, you're guaranteed to do well. Bonus points if you provide unique insights instead of just regurgitating.
To anybody thinking of taking this class: she has (somewhat accidentally) admitted to marking unfairly with the intent of forcing students into dropping out so that she could have smaller classes and less work to do. Also prone to factual errors or inconsistencies during lectures then gets overly sensitive / aggressive when corrected.
She is a very hard marker, and words her outlines to assignments poorly. She speaks quietly at times which makes it hard to understand course content, especially since the slides posted are useless. You must attend class to understand whats going on. She doesn't respond to student questions and often instead repeats herself in a belittling way.
The worst professor I have ever had. It is truly such a shame she is so awful at teaching because the material is extremely interesting and she is very knowledgeable. Does not post lectures. Power points are useless. She over complicates everything. She is not accommodating for COVID. Very rude to students who ask questions. Never take this class.
