He trys to be caring and understanding, but instead, he comes off as a bit pushy and acts more like a highschool teacher. He will call you out when it really isn't necessary, even if it doesn't affect him teach, talking or the class in general, and his grading is quite rough even though he comes off as reliable and clam as a person.
Really engaging lectures, but they tend to run a little long. Assignments were simple and easy to do well on. Do NOT speak during his lecture he will call you out.
He's very personable and caring. I enjoyed attending all his lectures since they were very interesting especially with class discussions. Wish there were class activities. However, final assignment and exam were marked extremely and unnecessarily hard which was unfortunate. He calls out those who are disrupting class which is understandable.
Interesting lectures. Good and engaging speaker. But assignment instructions are usually unclear.
Genuinely kind and understanding. Gives lectures with a lot of energy and passion even if the discussions can get a bit info heavy. Assigned readings weren't too long/dense and were clearly discussed during lectures.
Honestly his lectures are boring and dense. He takes up 3 hours with no breaks and his powerpoints are vague. His exam for a 2nd year class was way harder than it needed to be obviously showing he's not there in the best interest of his students. He was also rude to students at times during lecture. This was his first class at york and it shows.
Absolutely one of the best professors I've taken in the Concordia Communications department! Professor Laywine is inclusive, resourceful, and very understanding. I would absolutely take any other class with him again!
Nathaniel was such a great professor and I really enjoyed CMN211. Really interesting lectures, and although the course was asynchronous, I still felt totally engaged. He is a fair marker and the work isn't too difficult. Pretty long readings but as long as you look them over and view the recorded lectures, you will understand everything! Enjoyed!
Nathaniel was so nice and the lecture content was really interesting and easy to get through. The tests were straightforward but the essay was a little complicated and broad. The readings were long but I got by with just watching the lecture and then skimming readings for the information from the lecture. He answers emails pretty quick.
Nathaniel is very caring and genuinely wants the best for his students! Didn't love the inclusion of a group project worth 30% during a semester when we were all already getting used to the transition to online classes, but he marked fairly and provided a ton of useful feedback. Do watch your formatting on Q&A participation quizzes - he's picky.
