Dr. Diaz is an amazing Spanish professor. He makes each class very entertaining by making the entire class participate and playing small games to make students memorize Spanish terms and ideas better. The course is homework-heavy, however, the work is not too difficult. The tests are difficult. Overall, I think previous knowledge on Spanish is key
Many things taught in the class are not useful. Lots of time is wasted reading slides that are not applicable to midterms or finals.
Very caring and easy grader. He often held in-class group exercises where students can practice speaking Spanish with each other. There were Conversation Table activities where anyone who participated could get additional points. Even though there were many vocabs needed to be learnt, never stop practicing and you would get A+
I would absolutely follow his class again! I had him for SPN101, and I was nervous about speaking in Spanish, but he would make you comfortable and never embarrass anyone. We even had an outing to UofT for Latin American Heritage Month and made a Tik tok on the event! Very interactive and entertaining lectures! The Spanish Convo tables are fun too!
I think he is a good prof. We did lots of group in-class activities and were prepared well for the midterm and final papers. The composition topics were easy and it was nothing that could be a shock to us. I definitely recommend doing a bit of Duolingo though just to have a general understanding.
Caring and fosters a friendly environment for speaking Spanish.
Very nice professor and for Spanish courses, it is easy to get good grade if you participate
He forgets this is a beginner class. Out of the gate speaking in only Spanish. My Spanish speaking boyfriend even said that he's very judgemental on accents. Doesn't teach in a way that I can retain information properly.
This professor has no enthusiasm for teaching this class. His zoom lectures were as exciting as watching paint dry. He speaks mostly in Spanish right from the first day which makes the course unnecessarily confusing and frustrating- it's a beginner class! He is generally patient with people asking questions-even many redundant ones.
I was very excited to start up a new language but he quickly took all the excitement away. Wasn't understanding of the fact that it was a beginner class. Didn't really teach, sort of expected us to know a lot of the contents. Super tough grader, some days even came off as unreasonable. Was not beginner friendly.
