Great professor. Very kind and helpful. I was shocked at how much thoughtful feedback she was able to give to first drafts - lots of effort on her part. She seems like she loves her job, which is refreshing considering the attitude of a lot of professors. The course is pretty writing heavy which shouldn't be a surprise. Still, nothing crazy.
If you like writing you'll like this prof. She gave awesome feedback -very constructive. If you honestly try and hand in your assignments you'll find this course a great experience.
Assignments and particpation marks were managable. Prof's draft comments aimed at adding new angles rather than improvements. This made it confusing when comparing it to comments on the final submission. If you are looking to enhance your writing skills, do not take the intensive version of the course.
One of the best professors, I have met as a post-graduate student. Professor Margaret encourages students to try their best in the non-graded and graded assignments, provides descriptive and considerate feedbacks to each assignment, and prepares various activities during class to really make one think outside of the box. Overall, had so much fun :)
Margaret's lessons were incredibly engaging & enjoyable! Her feedback (in class & on assignments) was always detailed, thoughtful and encouraging! We posted early drafts of work for her to provide feedback on, which was very helpful. She cared about all of the students & wanted everyone to succeed! If you love writing, I highly recommend!
Margaret went out of her way to help me when I was ready to give up and drop her class. She really SAW me. She motivated me to write some pieces that were incredibly healing during a dark time in my life. I will always remember Margaret for this. The class was amazing, but it's a slow-burn and you gotta like writing- there's lots of it!
She makes the lectures engaging and encourages students when they participate. The feedback I received on my last assignment was the most detailed I've ever read from a prof at Ryerson. If you take it seriously you'll do well. Some say she wants to see you fail (?) but I see the complete opposite. She actually cares.
she gives people anxiety who don't do well with public speaking by calling out names to talk. This is not a speaking with confidence course. You cannot eat in her class which doesn't help students. I do not like she makes you read out your assignment to the class and assign 4 page assignments every night
No food allowed in her classroom. Not even snacks (that don't even smell....) which I find to be quite silly as we pay a lot of money to attend classes. Rules like this shouldn't exist. Food and snacks make us function better during long lectures. It's old school mentality and weird. She should definitely reconsider changing this ASAP.
