took this for my elective it was relatively easy and asynchronous. midterm, final, group project, and individual project sum up the course. the individual project was a little excessive and quite a bit of work but overall she marks very fairly.
Asynchronous class and didn't watch much of the long lectures. Not a hard class although not very engaging.
Love her, she is so sweet, knowledgable and inspirational. Discussions around food systems used to inspire you to make change in your own relationship with food systems. Watch the lectures, take notes & you'll be good for exams. Group project was a podcast (10min) and an individual paper based off it's content - relatively simple. Would recommend!
As an online course, participation and interaction matters. There are choices to choose from for discussion board, but the marking is tough. Sometimes the explanation for marking is not clear so be prepared. With the midterm and final online, just have notes from each week learning ready because there is a time limit, almost 1 minute per question.
I would not recommend this prof for soc808. The course itself isn't bad but she's an unreasonable marker. She will find any reason to take off marks and doesn't even give sufficient feedback so there's no space for improvement. However, the tests were not as bad as the discussion assignments and final written assignment.
Margaret is a real gem! The slides that was provided for the class are a great review for midterms and Final as well. Make sure you attend to class, she does make the class interesting and she does tell us what's on the midterm and Final!
Hands down the best professor I have ever had, her marking is fair and she literally tells you exactly what she is looking for. The class is fun and engaging and she is really passionate amount the topic which is really hard to find.
Margaret is a wonderful professor who is passionate about the topic of food and society. She is hilarious and really cares about her students. If you attend all of her lectures and pay attention to the slide content (and additional materials) you should do good! She definitely is not an easy marker but is always willing to help during office hours!
Margaret is a really great prof and you can tell she cares a lot about us the topic and us succeeding in the class. I didn't read the textbook at all and didn't do the participation portion of the course but still did pretty well in the class! She tells you exactly what she wants on the essay and what is going to be on the tests.
