I've had the pleasure of taking two courses taught by Professor Mersereau. He is very knowledgeable in his subjects, and promotes discussion to help teach topics. He's very approachable and remembers his students. He provides thorough PowerPoints and is a very reasonable marker and will help you/give extensions if you ask. Would recommend!
He's a good guy. Rambles on facts rather than teaching. I found it pretty hard to follow along. He doesn't grade you on a lot of things, and participation in group seminars is a must. He cares about his students and is pretty lenient when it comes to submitting things late, as long as you let him know.
Often felt like he was rattling off facts rather than teaching content. Made it hard to keep up if you fell behind. Otherwise, he knows his stuff, has a sense of humour and is lenient with assignments.
He elaborates on topics in an easy-to-understand way, which I found pretty helpful. Participation in class and seminars is really important. There are a lot of films and clips shown in lectures and for work so be sure not to fall behind if possible (or carve out good time to catch up). If you need help, you can totally reach out to him!
I love Peter, have taken him many times, and he always remembers his students. He's caring, passionate, and overall a great guy. He happily wrote me a recommendation letter for my masters and has asked me for updates! He can be a little soft spoken but he's genuinely very sweet and accommodating. Please take him if you can!
As I am writing this review, I am currently in said class seen in this rating. As a History major who prefers learning about Ancient Greece and Rome, I found that I was able to grasp a lot of new things. The lectures are pretty thorough, and the midterm was simple (some people say that it was too much writing for 90 minutes, but this varies).
Peter did a great job facilitating engaging Socratic Seminars.
Took this class as an upper liberal. It was pretty interesting and Peter posts interesting lectures to be done asynchronously. There are essay papers to write but they aren't hard. I would say the professor is a fair marker, the better work you submit the better grade you receive. Would recommend Peter to everyone!
Decent, got the credit, had average grades between 75-90's, decent grader, would take again but you definitely gotta put in the work
A professor who cares about his students and is willing to accommodate immensely when struggling. Hope to have him again!
