Peter Johnson

Pete is one of those rare profs who genuinely loves his work. He's passionate and cares a lot about the course content so lectures are very engaging even though he posts his slides. Midterm and final are easy if you study. There's also an extra credit assignment that is super helpful.

I took MUS505 in 2022, and it was an amazing course. I had a lot of fun, and I learned a lot. Be prepared to take a lot of notes!

Excellent professor! This was my favourite course I took this semester and it's thanks to Peter. The lecture content was very interesting and engaging both online and in person. He can be a tough grader on the essay, but its very enjoyable to write as the prompt is very open and allows you to write about a musical artist your passionate about.

The prof knows his stuff about music he is like an open book, I liked learning a lot of new information in a fun cool way, but the issue was the assignments, the essays, and above that there were the tests that were so intense. I would not recommend anyone to take this course that thinks it's an easy A or it is manageable course work.

He is 5/5 for a reason, one of my favourite profs by far and his lectures were asynchronous for the term I had with him. Very fast to respond to emails and gives really good feedback on essays, his lectures are so much fun they do not even feel like work. From now on i am looking for a class with Professor Johnston every semester

Peter is an absolute treasure. He's very passionate and knowledgeable about music in general and his take on popular music was very refreshing (I weirdly found myself sad that the semester came to an end while writing the final). Peter knows his stuff and adds some wit and humour to all his lectures, going to miss this class and prof tremendously

I found him a little rude but it's probably unintentional. Some of the lecture content felt a bit like a reach/over-analysis to bridge the example to the lecture topic but overall the class was okay and the content was diverse

I really enjoyed this music course! The prof is really knowledgeable and in my opinion, makes the content really interesting and fun. Was able to talk with him outside of class about the course and essay and really glad for that. Would really recommend this course!

Absolutely love Peter. Amazing professor really cares about his students and their success in his course. Very open to answering concerns and questions. Amazing lecturer, is passionate about what he teaches therefore makes the content fun and interesting. Exams and assignments are based on lectures so easy to do well if you go to them. Fav prof!!!
