I took this course back in summer 2025. As classmates have noted, she was very helpful and caring. She was accessible most hours of the day (even after dinner) and strives to help students. I personally do not like doing field work, but she made the course really enjoyable.
Dr. Melles is an exceptional professor and a genuinely wonderful person. I highly recommend taking the field course with her or any course she teaches.
Extremely helpful and caring towards all students in the field course. Allowed for everyone to develop independence and was there for anything we needed.
She is a really caring and humble professor. She made the learning process really interesting. Highly recommend taking the field course with her!! Worth it
Took this class Fall 2024, went to almost all classes but i didnt pay any attention i just went to get the 10% participation. Assignments were VERY easy, we got lucky cause we didnt do the midterm due to an accident she had(so our assignments were worth 70%). Didnt study for the final though. Overall she's an alright professor, id take it again.
Such a kind professor who truly cares for her students. Her course was interesting and engaging highly recommend it if you're interested in population biology. I learned how to use R software and ArcGIS Pro, which made the class even more valuable. As long as you follow the grading criteria, you'll do well. Heads up there are mandatory field trips.
Since my 2/5 review, I changed my mind & I realized that Dr. Melles is a decent prof in the grand scheme. If u want to succeed: attend class, take notes on the slides, and practice all the Mastering Biology stuff. Yes, her slides are a bit disorganized, but her tests are super fair and it's easy to succeed if u spend reasonable time studying.
She is a good and passionate professor. Her lectures are very informative.
Dr. Melles is a genuinely caring and kind prof, but she is not suited for teaching. Her slides are like a scrapbook and her lectures are disorganized/slow-paced, and you're better off self-studying and not attending class (use Mastering Biology/Textbook and make notes, and then use her slides/recorded lectures - do not only rely on her notes).
She's a good prof, but her lectures are a bit unorganized. Is really flexible and takes our opinions into consideration. Does not boost your grade even if it's less than a percent, overall a genuine prof.
