Amazing course to take during the summer just make sure to 100% read the entire textbook sections he assigns for quizzes as he brings lots of specific conceptual questions directly from readings, 4 quizzes, 5-7 mc per quiz & 1-2 long answer questions, extremely fair grading scheme if you study well & do his problem sets
This course is generally moderate but can be difficult if not properly studied. He usually reads off the slides, but his slide examples are where you'll benefit the most, as his solutions are well written and explained. I recommend doing all the recommended problems he posts, as well as redoing the lecture slides after class, and you'll be fine.
Boring lecturer but gives good class examples that represent what will be on midterm. Final this year was rough and the project was graded not nicely
The only prof you want for 511. Fair testing, great format in spring/summer. Everyone actually did so well in the first 3 quizzes that on the fourth he intentionally to leave a crucial formula off of the formula sheet to bring down the average. Treacherous, but also a testament to how well you can do in his class.
His lectures were fantastic. Great communication and teaching skills (which not a lot of people have) Patiently answered questions. His solutions to in-lecture problems were very thorough and descriptive. Exams were fair, somewhat challenging but if attended lectures consistently and did enough practice, getting an A is not terribly difficult.
Great prof, made a difficult course way doable than the fall term due to the format. Doesn't pull any surprises in the quizzes, and as long as you study hard from past exam papers and the textbook, you'll be fine.
Took MEC511 in the spring and it was amazing, super fair format for the assessments and the problems themselves were not hard if you knew how he does his formats/ spam similar problems to them. Its a skill issue if you can't get an A+.
Took MEC511 in the summer and it was amazing as we had 4 Quizzes each worth 22.5% and then the other 10% was labs. Quizzes had 4-5 multiple choice and 1-2 long answer and it was really easy as the problems were similar to the homework problem sets. Very fair prof.
Constantly read off the slide shows. Never solved one problem together with the class; points at the solutions already on the slide show and never gives full explanations of the process needed to answer the questions. Never gave a you a straight answer. Teaches only a fraction of what is tested. Shows up late to class. Never felt ready for any test
