Lots of writing and reading! Honestly more than I expected despite the fact that he warns us on the syllabus. If you don't have the EXTRA hours daily I really don't recommend taking this course, it can muck up your schedule. He does his job fine, no issues there. He really cares and goes out of his way to resolve issues if you reach out to him.
I took CENG505 online in the Spring with the course being 1.5 months with classes twice a week. I ended the course with an A; took advantage of the bonus marks his gives out and read the ($70) text book. Pros: Quizzes, bonus marks, and approachable prof Cons: Readings, tough(ish) marker, lectures weren't really helpful
This course was extremely hard to take as it incorporates many assignments and readings. I urge others not to take it as this professor is very picky (hard) on giving grades. The creative component is very limited to those in the writing section. The professor gives feedback, but it is not helpful. The only positive component was the quizzes.
Great prof and interesting course. Important to go to every class as there's mandatory attendance for easy marks. Mini textbook is important as content has guided questions for pieces needed in the midterm and final portfolio (for easy marks again). Good as an elective to enhance the inner writer. Visit prof during hours posted for further guidance
I found this class to be very dry. The text book is $165, and the lectures just parrot what the textbook says (with quizzes!). The professor acts as if genre lit is not a valuable form of literature, and only assigns contemporary ("realistic") fiction to read. Grades rather unfairly/is very picky, considering the writing is meant to be "creative."
I never write reviews but I wanted to share how great the prof and this course was! I was not one for creative writing before but took it because it was available in the summer. The prof made the class very understanding and is a fair grader. I was able to do really well in his class. Text is pricey but worth it, reading it is crucial for quizzes.
don't take this class if you are hoping to be inspired or be taught by someone who actually produces good content - like someone said on his other page he teaches about great writers he himself is not inspiring or great
