I had Colin twice this year for both my research classes, and each time he's been great. He is very accommodating and understanding when you are struggling with assignments and never gave me a hard time for extensions. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in class, you will do well. He's very funny and good natured, and grades fair.
Nice guy.. however his lectures tho, are the worst and impossible to understand. His feedback via zoom on assignments was unclear and hard to understand I spent over 1h just trying to understand him and his point. Its also frustrating when a prof gives a low mark but cant articulate or clearly communicate the reasoning behind it. Avoid his classes.
Prof is nice but his lectures are extremely difficult to understand as he uses his assistant to teach the class.assistant has to read out each letters & punctuations that is typed by the prof. I recommend you switch to a different prof if you have the availability.
I enjoyed class with Colin. Patient, caring, wants students to succeed. Makes me sad to see comments from students about communication style. Colin is a brilliant, accomplished scholar and professor. As social work students, I would hope that in the future folks will think twice about making ableist statements and judgements.
Funny and caring prof. The class wasn't too easy or hard. I enjoyed the class.
Very difficult to understand the profesor due to communication barrier. It was distracting when assistant spelled words, pronouncing every letter and punctuation and putting it into sentences. It was very difficult to concentrate and to process the information. The assistant was teaching. If I had a choice, I would have not taken this professor.
If you have him for SWP 538 I would recommend that you drop him and take the class with a different professor, the way he teaches is stressful and not worth it. You will be teaching yourself more. If you decide to stay in the class prepare to study a lot on your own and do a lot of readings. He also forces participation in his classes.
This is more on his current assistant. She would read what he is typing before he is done, will slowly read words one by one, sometimes slowing down to spelling out words, back track and repeat part of a sentence, say "comma" out loud. It's impossible to maintain attention. Be prepared to self-study because you're not learning anything in class.
Extremely knowledgeable in respected subject. Need to read textbook to understand the content throughly and to pass the quizzes. Very kind. Style the content was taught in personally was not easy to understand at first but progressively becomes clear and connects to social work directly. Learned to love social policy because of this class!
While taking health policy, I found Colin very supportive and encouraging to students on the online discussion forum. The assignments allowed me real practice skills in policy development, an area I hope to continue to advocate within. The assignments allowed us the autonomy to complete it structurally as suited our learning which was nice! :)
