Dionisio is a great professor but most of all is a very good person. He gave me many extensions after I explained to him my difficult situation. He is also very passionate about the topics.
This course is somewhat heavy but Dionisio was able to spend time explaining the material and was available to facilitate additional support during office hours. He responded to emails in a timely manner and was overall a supportive professor.
Dionisio's best feature is that he' extremely passionate. I had him prior to covid and during, and he really adapted to support his students. Understanding, playing intro music like Marley, keeping lectures concise and great prep for exams. Also his metaphors are legit... Water is life is indigenous world views and the anthem for standing rock
It's clear that he's passionate about the course material, but I can't say the same for the effort he puts into his students' success and lecturing. I did not feel supported by him at any point. Including when I visited for office hours and he was nearly an hour late. I wish him well, but will do everything in my power to avoid his classes. Avoid!
Very caring prof and easy marker. But, the whole class was confused throughout the semester. His power points are just quotes from the readings.
Dr. Nyaga was a great professor! His teachings are sentimental and inspirational that they will carry you for a lifetime. He is a good person and he truly cares about the success of his students! It was a pleasure to be a part of his class!
Dionisio's class is different than most that I have taken at Ry. Its more philosophical. Dionisio uses frequent metaphors and shares personal experience both in the field and from his life to visually deconstruct systems of oppression, in a human way. He should however become more familiar with trans issues as he demonstrated erasure during class.
The worst prof I have ever had. Lectures are just a mishmash of repeated stories and have nothing to do with the material. Acts all "galaxy brain, inspire you to look deeper" but his analysis is often very basic. Does not explain assignments AT ALL. Will not actually read your assignment and give you unhelpful feedback. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
One of the worst profs I have ever had. Spends 2 hours ranting before moving on from the title slide. Uses strange, confusing, and questionable analogies to try and explain concepts. Ppts are just quotes from the text book. Very little to no explanation of assignments. Papers are given back with minimal feedback, and grades assigned at random.
Be prepared for INTENSE eye contact, too much reading and assignments that aren't well explained. He's an easier marker than some, but he gives minimal feedback. His lectures teach ultimately nothing, but if you don't go he will notice. Also be prepared for metaphors to explain metaphors to explain whatever he is trying to convey.
