He teaches mediocre content, and most of us in the room can't even see what he's teaching half the time. Very condescending. Extremely Pro-AI - he requires us to use it in his assignments, and his lectures consist of unsightly AI-generated images. I feel like I'm learning nothing. Choose anyone else as a prof.
I had a very fun time attending Novak's lectures. This definitely was a course that took off the weight of my heavy course load. Novak is very easy going, wants his students to succeed and also likes to know everything we do along the way. My only issue I had was the amount of emails we would get especially if they were last minute requests.
This prof would constantly move up or push back deadlines, tell us to participate in the upcoming class last minute, and made us use AI for a few assignments which wasn't fun. Attendance and participation isn't mandatory at all, the final exam is fully online, and every other assignment is a group project so make friends and get good group members.
He has a clear vision for how he would edit a project and will mark you poorly if your work differs from what he had in mind. Taught very basic content; I didn't feel like I learned anything and the class felt like a waste of my time. Nice guy but not my fav class or prof.
Allan was an awful practicum supervisor, he had no real guidance or advise to offer. He forced us to change our project according to his own liking. He did not seem interested in our success. If you get Allan in RTA 503 know that you will have no support for your practicum and that you will have to defend your idea alot.
This is the most unique course I have ever taken. This course really gives you a condensed experience of being in the film industry and I highly recommend it to whoever wishes to tell visual stories or is looking for a fun course to take while at University. Who knows, you may even win an 920 film award?
It was a real delight to have Novak as one of my professors. Unfortunately, it was online, however, he made it work tremendously. Three-hour lectures were sometimes a chore but overall it was kept fun and interesting--another thing to note, it is quite evident he really does care about the students he teaches--you do not see that often with profs!
It sucked that this class was online, because it would have been so fun in person. Allan did his best to make it as fun as possible. Hes a very fun and nice guy, and a pretty easy marker.
I really enjoyed Allan's editing class. I had worked with Adobe Premiere once or twice before, but didn't really have that much experience with it until this class and within a couple of months I found I really had a good grip on the software as well as a good editing "rhythm". I would definitely take a class with Allan again in future!
Allan knows so much about this field that you will learn a lot! He has taken the virtual learning experience to a new level. You will do a commercial, short film and doc. It is fun but also at times work. Weekly lectures are really informative. There are also mini drills/tasks throughout the semester to help ensure you are understanding concepts.
