The class was very lecture heavy and toughly marked. Dr. Thrasher was helpful/accessible outside of class. Do what you will with this information, but the very first class with about 90+ students Dr. Thrasher started with a comment along the lines of if you are a white male student don't speak in my class, which I was a little taken aback at.
I really enjoyed this prof. Some people are saying she reads off her slides, which is true, but I don't see that as much of a problem. If you don't wanna go you don't have to. However, I do think Thrasher is a real gem of a person. She takes the time to make her lectures VERY accessible which means a lot. Would recommend.
Professor Thrasher reads right off of her slides- and if you do the readings, you don't have to show up. Participation was only 5% and i got an 100 by only showing up to a few classes. When challenging grades or assignment feedback, she isn't to approachable. Get ready for a pretty boring lecture. Easy class regardless.
genuinely a kind person, she really cares and i felt extremely prepared for all of her tests / exams. even throughout the covid19 pandemic she was extremely helpful. i would take her class again!
The lectures are very entertaining and interactive. She is very knowledgable in the field of sociology and very passionate. If you do your readings then you will do well in all of her classes. I have taken this professor multiple times. She also makes herself available for essay guidance and is very helpful.
She really is super monotone like everyone says. Since her slides are so heavily detailed and lots of them, you can definitely skip her lectures and teach this to yourself if you need to.
I loved her as a prof! I thought she was super knowledgeable and made the material accessible to everyone. She has good at explaining things in different ways to help us understand.
Her lectures were so boring that even she was aware of them. Super monotone too. She creates her slides with the bare minimum of just copying and pasting info. Every week, I felt like skipping class. You're better off reading the textbook and studying from that. Her midterm/exam was easy but the she graded a little tougher on the papers.
This was my second time having her as a prof!! I had her for SSH301 and SOC107!!! Again, just pay attention and do your best and you'll be fine!!! She was not too tough of a grader again. However, sometimes, there were more readings than necessary, still a good prof for me though because she was kind and caring and not much different from SOC107!!!
Thrasher needs to work on being more engaging. Her voice is often monotone and just repeats what is on the slide. beware, there is A LOT of reading - but not necessary in order to get an A. She is a nice person and you can tell she's trying, but there is some room to improve.
