Prof Land is a great professor. The lectures were enjoyable and 2 hours each, which I find ideal. Makes sure that 8am lectures are worth the time. Would definitely take again if he teaches a course I need.
Wanted to love Land at the beginning because he is very knowledgeable. That being said his marking was fairly difficult and he also often felt disconnected from the class, like he didn't care. There was also this ridiculous situation where the TA marked harder than him and he just boosted everyone marked by the TA 2percent. Seems unfair to me
All you sort of need is the book and his slides. Tutorials were unhelpful, and my TA was confused most of the time. Focuses on the application of the knowledge to a greater degree. Some of the tests are weighed heavily. Make sure you understand how to apply the concepts as the majority of the marks are allocated towards those types of questions.
Decent prof, didn't have any issues and was engaging which was good since it was an 8am class. Explained things clearly and if any confusion TAs were helpful. Only evaluated on tests, but they were all fairly straightforward. Only complaint was some of the questions on tests were heavily weighted. For example one mc worth 2-3 marks?
Absolutely fantastic professor. Wouldn't change a thing about him.
Absolutely adore this professor. He's an amazing educator and an even better philosophical researcher. Deeply cares for his students. Marks fairly. He's intimidating (especially at first) so no one messes around in his class. And his lectures are very very intense. You will be frantically taking notes the entire time.
You can easily tell Professor Land knows everything about the subject matter he talks about, but he is not pretentious about it. He does his best to break down very complicated theories by using many analogies and retouching on the important topics. You can easily tell Land cares about the students understanding and success in philosophy.
One of the greatest professors I have had the pleasure to be in the same class with. You can clearly tell that he is really insightful just by the way that he carries both himself and the lectures that he delivers. He is very dedicated to the students and genuinely wants to see us succeed. very clear, concise and to the point.
Very knowledgeable about philosophy, genuinely interested. A bit dry because he's very methodical and takes his time to think about things, but easy to understand and marks fairly. Half the mark came from participation and attendance :P
