Gene is a great lecturer! The content he teaches is very interesting and he teaches it in a very engaging manner such as asking the class questions, giving good examples to prove this point, etc. Assigns readings from the textbook but it isnt necessary to do them. You will understand the stuff discussed in the lectures without Doing the readings.
This class is boring! If you're a big history buff and have an interest in the media history of Canada then you'll love this. He packs A LOT of information into one class & there are A LOT of mandatory readings. However, his midterm & test were very fair. You do have to study to do well on them though.
He seems like a really nice, great person. Unfortunately he is a boring teacher and his assignments are drudgery that take forever to get through and end up being worth 5%. I learnt a bit about research methods but that class could have been replaced by a detailed handout of where to find ppls phone# and how to use lexisnexis.
I expected this to be a really interesting class and he was so laden down with boring readings and we never came up from them ....it was a drudgery to go to that class and it could have been so interactive and interesting,.,..agree with the person who wrote he was Mr.Didactic ...and he does have his favorites , the one who use the $5 words....
The sharpest mind in the Ryerson journalism department. A good editor, fair marker and gifted instructor. One of the best profs I have ever had.
Gene is a great man. He knows his stuff about broadcasting and is a very fair and realistic marker. He prepares his students well for a future in broadcasting.
had Gene for a grad class in the history of news and it was the best course in comcult! all the classes had great discussions, and really made me think. gene's really enthusiastic about journalism history -- that enthusiasm is infectious. take this class!!
He has his favourites and doesn't listen to reason. But he knows his stuff and he does teach what he knows.
He's not in the box; he drew it. You know Mr. Happy, Mr. Sad, etc.? Well, you can call him Dr. Didactic. He ONLY likes people that remind him of himself. He's bright and sharp, but only in a really narrow way.
He's weird in his teaching methods and, like most other journalism profs, likes students who kiss a**.
