Oren Amitay

Did last 3 raters have the same prof I had? Amitay did call out UNcritical thinkers and criticized psychology. I don't think he singled out lefties? He covered MANY SEXUALITY topics. Exams were hard, but fair. LOTS of content from lecture, abt 2/3. Final seemed easier than midterm, pulled up my final grade. Paper graded very fairly. I loved Amitay.

Expectation: what sexuality is, how it develops, sex disorders, sexual trauma, sex in history & culture. Reality: genitals, sex acts, pornography, transgenderism, sex statistics This course might be more appropriate for medical students as it focuses on the physical and material aspects of SEX more than anything related to SEXUALITY.

Amitay is a right winger extremist! Beware. He believe Psychology is a hard science. It is not. It is all his fantasy and you are expect to join in with him. Neurotic and paranoid of anyone on the left.

Proctored exams. Mandatory attendance as exam is just questions on his personal opinion. Class average was 55%.

I can't believe that Dr Amitay was yanked from the class half way through the term! He was the best prof I've ever had, and I really appreciated that he actually teaches critical thinking and exposed us to more new information I have ever received in all my classes. I was looking forward to what else he was going to cover.

He is by far one of the best profs I've ever had. He is like postgrad level. Very practical and teaches real world material. He tries to show the real matter of psychology to students. very knowledgeable! He's taught me living life, debate and how to be a critical thinker/efficient person/future therapist. if you want a real prof take him!

Very straightforward about what will be on 2 exams (mult choice), and how to do well on term paper (choose the reflection option). Grading of paper was fair. Most of exam comes from lecture, some of it pretty specific. But he is very clear about what will be on exam. Lectures are best I've seen, really engaging and interactive. Really teaches.

I love that Oren is a real 'man of the people'. I can see myself having drinks with him, just shooting the s......, and learning so much from him. I found him very approachable and knowledgable about so many topics. And he was honest and humble enough to admit when he didn't know something. No BS from him. Plus, he's funny, into metal, movies, etc.

Simply put, you get what you put into this class. If you are fully engaged, you will get so much out of what Dr. Amitay says. He asks lots of questions and does many demonstrations. He tells you what to expect on the exams and gives many options for the final essay. He is very available outside of class. My only criticism is the text.

I can honestly say I have never been pushed to challenge my assumptions and beliefs as much as in this class. So many controversial and sensitive topics were covered, but the prof handled each of them sensitively and professionally, although with humour and provocatively (in a good way). I investigated all his claims and they were all supported.
