Top Professor.
Maybe the best Lecture Class in First Year Architecture. Surprised he knew my name in a class of 120 students. Always a line-up after class to talk to him. Helped me with Studio problems and application of his course. The older students in Grad School really respect him. That says a lot.
Lecture slides are relevant and interesting however assignments are often poorly thought through and difficult. Starts classes with personal and irrelevant tangents like 'who do I prefer in architecture, men or women?' which end about as well as one would expect them too.
One of the most biased profs I have come across at DAS. He would critique my project and technicalities and compliment my classmates (with the same materials and technical drawings) in the same breath. Would often go on "anti-covid" and "anti-mask" rants. Ryerson needs to hire younger profs with a better experience.
For ASC 202, Ed would ramble about different topics for the entirety of his lectures. I found it hilarious at the time, but I did not learn as much as I had hoped to. His tone was very pessimistic most days and told us we had no future in this industry. Have fun in his lectures!
I had Ed for studio previously and would 100% take any of his courses again. He's entertaining and the course content was interesting. I learned a lot in this class and it was probably one of the most helpful courses in undergrad - you learn a lot about different kinds of materials on the market. Great prof.
He has an interesting personality, very talkative and insightful. He gives a lot of architecture field advice beyond the class which can come off as demeaning but is actually useful. The lectures and exam is easy but the two major projects are very intense - do not leave it last minute or you will burn out.
Best Studio that I encountered at Ryerson. His Sacred Space Studio is probably the most intense work I had ever accomplished. Out of 16 students, 10 went on to Graduate Architecture Schools and the other 6 students found great jobs. Highly recommended to take this Studio, but it is competitive to enter. Thanks Edward, I will always remember you.
Attitude towards many 1st year students was demeaning, like many of the other Arch profs at Ryerson. Didn't appreciate his remarks @ a critique of another 1st yr student project, all personal. I believe that when I am screwing up& nobody says anything to me, that means they gave up on me. Yet, he fails big at "HOW" on feedback 2us. Train them, DAS!
Solid. Practising Architect. Tough Studio Critic. Wonderful stories of real life practice. Can be engaged at many levels. My maturity and attitude to architecture was disciplined. Understands history and theory better than those who lecture about it. Wish he was my Studio prof in first and second year also. Has great respect from students. Best.
