Lowk aint feelin this course crodigy
This course is difficult for the wrong reasons. The course teaches basic concepts but brute, large scale, sometimes word-for-word memorization is required for 85+. Get ready to learn 4 different aliases for the same concept, dozens of 5 step processes of which some components have 5 step processes themselves. Overall horrible course.
Incredibly hostile towards students who ask questions. Assesments consist mostly of regurgitating exactly what was said on the slides with zero critical thinking. If you are good at remembering slides word-for-word this is an alright course. If you are used to actual problem solving then don't take this course.
Great prof. She makes the content as fun as she can. She cares about your wellbeing and takes the time to help you with whatever you need. Her eccentric teaching style can be pretty fun too.
This prof tries so hard to be relatable by referencing pop culture memes, doubling down on engineering stereotypes, and constantly using students in her examples when it might be deemed inappropriate to do so. The workload is wayy too ridiculous for what this course is actually trying to teach. a 5-7 page report on personal career goals really?
She knows JRE420 is a bird course so she introduced artificial difficulty into the grading scheme to reduce marks. For example, the way that test questions are marked it is extremely difficult to get perfect. Also participation marks, essay grading, and project marks appear to be very fugazzi just looking for 80% average.
A bit ironic how she preaches workplace etiquette in JRE 420 but when she posts a job opening for a summer student, she doesn't send out a job regret letter. Additionally, she doesn't even respond to students who then follow up asking about the status of their applications. Not to mention she doesn't respond to emails about the course, ever.
Her course structure is designed to minimize unnecessary stress so students can focus more on enjoying her classes and not necessarily high grades, which is a value I appreciate very much. Lecture style, approach, and attitude can be a bit jarring at first, but I can see the purpose is to create an open, entertaining , and educational atmosphere.
Never responds to emails. Never gives feedback - even when asked. No body got above an 85 on the final so it seems like she marks the final with the intent of lowering everyones mark. Class average on the final was in the 60s.
She has a very likable character, but she is terrible as a prof. Worst time management ever -- left 30% of materials unexplained almost every lecture since she spent half an hour doing meaningless activities / providing obvious examples. Stuff she taught are common sense. Course assignments have nothing to do with people management.
