Stephen is by far, the best professor I've ever had. He knows his craft and is very passionate about it. He is extremely knowledgeable in film, with an emphasis on experimental film. Not only is he a sweet and caring guy, but he truly values his students and always keeps his lectures fresh and interesting. It was a pleasure taking his classes!
Stephen was really inspiring, and got me interested in film both inside and outside of the classroom. He is himself a filmmaker, and has written books on Canadian film, so the knowledge he offers comes first hand. Overall I loved the lectures, and watching weird, obscure films in class that I never would have found otherwise.
Stephen teaches the importance of film history and the evolution of filmmaking. He teaches the technique and the origins of filmmaking and filmmakers. Also, his approach to film history is taught as something that is important, rather than a bunch of events that just happened.
Very nice and easy-going prof. Really learned a lot throughout the course.
Stephen is awesome, one of the best film professors I've ever had and I've been to a few schools. He is extremely talented and knowledgeable and this translates to a passion for teaching and guiding students productions. If you want to make good films and actually learn the true rules of filmmaking be they narrative or experimental take his classes
Stephen may not be the most approachable prof at first. And he may rub people the wrong way. But he is hands down one of the most intellectual professors I've ever had in film school. He will always be to the point and honest about things. His classes tend to be very lecture heavy, but that points to his intellect as a filmmaker and film theorist.
He may seem harsh up front, but not only is Stephen Broomer knowledgeable but he is extremely fair and is approachable about any questions one may have in the course. His lectures are fascinating!
Broomer is a nice guy and pretty helpful when you ask him questions. Do not expect him to put up grades or material on D2L. He always says he will but he hardly ever does. If you attend the lectures and watch the movies, it'll be super easy. Everything is pretty straight forward.
One of the most painfully boring classes I've ever taken, although I do HATE experimental film, and this is pretty much his only thing (even in Canadian Cinema). Not a very good public speaker, and very boring, but when talking one-on-one is clearly really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Only 3 things to do, I got a good grade without too much work
