Literally, the worst professors I've had during my 4 years of university. She is very nice, however, has the vaguest guidelines and marks extremely hard for no reason. Avoid her if you can!
Julie Tomiak is truly very passionate about feminism and indigenous rights. Yet, she is one of the worst professors I've EVER had. She is very hard at marking and covers barely anything that is so specifically asked on the exam and midterm. If you have her, try do drop her course and go with another prof.
Worst prof I have ever had. She is unclear on instructions for assignments. She gives two in class assignment worth 10% of your grade and she marks them REALLY hard. I am a straight A student and I got a 90% on the exam (just read the text) and I am getting 60% on everything else so far. Don't waste your time.
This is the dumbest course ever. Tomiak is feminist who I think prides herself on teaching what you can read in the news and then marks you unbelievably hard. She gives no details as to why, just her subjective opinion. Don't take this thinking it's an easy A. Readings are useless and a waste of time. Can't believe the uni pays her to teach.
She's really passionate about Indigenous studies. She stimulates good conversation throughout her lectures. Her slides are incomplete when she posts them so attendance is necessary. Feedback is helpful but assignments take some time to return. Overall good prof.
This course is super heavy content wise! took it as a lower liberal but so much to know plus she doesn't post full slides so if you miss info in class you're screwed. She is also rude. If you're looking for a lower level liberal that'll keep you interested and not to tough on your schedule STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS W/ THIS PROF!!
Worst class. Pointless lectures, since her midterm and exam is solely based on the textbook. Very difficult to do well on her assignments due to the lack of detailed instructions. Failed to even give a proper feedback on assignments.
Julie is amazing ! She really cares about her students and is passionate about the subject. Julie tries her best to involve the class and is respectful when listening to the opinions of others. This course was great and Julie taught it exceptionally well, a very engaging prof. She truly wants you to do well and LEARN about race and ethnicity
Pointless class that you're forced to take if you're in the arts. Information for test and exam is all based in textbook, so there's no reason to attend lecture other than for two harshly graded assignments. Both assignments have no clear grading criteria so you're at the mercy of whoever is marking it. Essay is no different with vague instructions
