THIS ISNT A BIRD COURSE! Really interesting topic if you enjoy history, and the assigned readings are not boring. But there are a lot of weekly expectations to uphold if you want a good mark. Usually 50+ pages of assigned readings paired with podcasts or videos. A weekly discussion post where you have to cite what was assigned as well. Lots of work
While Cammaert graded pretty easily on all the assignments, the course itself is quite hard. It has 100 pages of readings each week and a 2500 word research essay. I probably worked the hardest on this course and this is an elective. She replies to emails slowly, but is pretty responsive to questions. Don't read the modules, just do the readings.
The course was very interesting, but there were way too many readings each week. At first she comes across as considerate, but even if you have accommodations, she isnt. I wouldnt take a course with her again.
She gives a heavy amount of readings and other supplementary learning activities, but they're so interesting. This was my second history course at Ryerson, and even though it was online, she really made the course interesting. She was also very understanding in terms of the whole COVID-19 situation.
How can a prof make 5 hour long podcasts mandatory every week on top of 5 articles.. HUH?? Im the kind of person who procrastinates but I never expected this. Nonetheless I find the course extremely interesting and valuable to learn, I just wish it wasn't so reading heavy.. like I have other courses a job and a life mam.
The topic, History of Africa before 1850 is so interesting but there are so many readings, podcasts and movies assigned every week. It's hard to manage if this is your first online course. The readings, movies and podcasts aren't boring but there's just a lot of them. Stay away if you prefer to do things last minute....
My favourite course 1st year. It's clear she genuinely loves what she is teaching and cares about her students. Reading list way more interesting than POL101, and she facilitated class discussion in a way that we delved deep into the issues. Definitely a challenging course, but very intellectually rewarding. Keep doing what you're doing!
She's the most caring professor I've had at U of T! I took the TRN152 class and was dealing with a lot of mental health obstacles at the time. She encouraged me to reach out to my registrar and even went out of her way to check on me! She's a gem I didn't end up with an A+ (granted I was dealing with a LOT) I would 150% take another class of hers
She will expect the impossible from you. Has hardly any consideration for students or their schedules and would actually encourage you to lose marks and submit a paper but would not allow room for extensions, even if you were to ask for it weeks in advance. Discussion board posts, online activities in addition to the essays which are extensive!
