so incredible, if you want to take creative writing I highly recommend this prof, he cares so much about all his students, even takes the time to write full out essays of feedback for each student, he structured the class as more or a community then a lecture and made it such a great environment, would definitly take again
Not a bad professor. Testing was strange as I don't see how multiple choice tests your knowledge in an English course. I also didn't like how there was a participation grade, yet no attendance was take nor was there much facilitation of discussion. He did choose great readings, though!
Lectures are pretty dry, but they're necessary for the essays and exams. He's unintentionally hilarious at times which makes the class a lot more enjoyable, but that's purely my personal preference.
No complaints. Rather straightforward lectures (however you must come to class and pay attention since a lot of the exam questions are from obscure commentary in his lectures). No final exam, which is nice.
It's essential to actively pay attention in his class because the answers for the tests come straight from what he talks about in lecture. His lectures are a little dry, but with more time and practice, he has potential to be an exceptional professor. However, he's very keen on what he looks for in assignments, so be wary of that.
you can tell he's really into what he teaches. respects what you have to say if you speak up in lectures, especially when interpreting something from the reading. its an english class, so obvs you gotta read. really keeps you engaged by being so into what he's teaching. no textbook, but one novel, one play, and a pdf of poems/short stories. saves $
im sure one day Heise could be a good professor, he just needs a little more work, but currently he is just not a strong professor right now, he needs a little more feedback and help
The class is an excellent chance to see modernist literature aborning. Heise's analyses were straight-forward and intelligently insightful; nothing more, nothing less. Expected, yet distinctive choices in novels. Tests were simple; info is magically placed in his lectures or novel (so listening and reading is essential). Dislike 10% participation.
Try to avoid this prof to the best of your ability. Taking this class was the biggest regret of me semester
